Child Protection Requirements for Employees and VolunteersAll diocesan employees and volunteers who have substantial contact with children are required to be in compliance with the diocesan child protection policy. All adults over 18 who plan to become involved in school, sports, Scouting, Religious Education or other activities in which you will be involved with children must complete diocesan requirements before beginning work. This involves submitting the paperwork (Questionnaire and Acknowledgment of receipt of the policy), completing information for a background check, and subscribing to a diocesan Code of Conduct. All forms are available at the Rectory Office (open M-F 8am-9pm, Sat & Sun 9:30am-7pm), at the St. Leo's School Office or at the St. Leo's Religious Education Office. One of the documents you will need to submit requires that your signature be notarized. There are new requirements for notaries in the Commonwealth of Virginia which you should be aware of:
Finally you must attend a diocesan-run training seminar. Please register on-line at VIRTUS for the seminar. Click on the word “Registration” on the left-hand side of the Virtus home page. The site will then guide you through the rest of the process. You will be given a choice of locations and dates. You will see that there are many options to choose from -- at least one of which should fit into your schedule. Some seminars are offered in Spanish -- if you are more comfortable with the Spanish language you may attend one of these. You will receive a confirmation email indicating that your registration has been processed. You will also receive an email after you have attended the seminar, indicating your satisfactory completion of this requirement. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Adams at the Rectory, 703-273-5369. |
